We’ve designed this with you in mind…

Curio Bay (Porpoise Bay) in the Catlins is our destination; surfing and yoga is our mission. Essential nutrition for your body, mind and soul.

We’ve just come back from a magic weekend in the Catlins with 23 lovely ladies, great surf, weather, company and food. Instead of waiting until next January for the next event, we’ve decided to put together an April version with an upgrade in it.

We’ve booked out Dolphin Lodge from 11-13th April. The lodge has ocean views from the deck, and most rooms, of the golden, sandy, 4km long Porposise Bay, private beach access and surf  in front of the lodge. Max number of ladies is 15, all staying in the same lodge (sorry no camping options available this time). The lodge has been newly renovated a large comfy lounge, ideal for yoga and fully made-up double/ twin/ triple bed rooms. There is a covered area for putting on and taking off wetsuits and storing gear.

All your gear is included- surf boards, wetsuits, boots and gloves if needed. We want to make sure that you are well equipped with the right gear to enjoy your time and get the most out of the surf lessons. (Sorry no discount if you bring your own gear)

Everything is optional. If you want to come down to chill out, sleep in, wander on the beach and eat good food with fab company then head on down. Equally, if you want to be up at dawn and entertained, exercised and exhausted till you drop, we have it sussed!

We will incorporate a surf theory session before we hit the water. What to look for, how to start learning to read the waves and some basic terminology. It’s always good to learn about how different beaches and breaks work.

Plan is to arrive down there on Friday evening (about 3.5-4hrs from Wanaka, 1hr from Invercargill, 3 hrs from Queenstown) .We will be help with car pooling arrangements from various locations and airports if needed.

Best time to get in the surf is roughly 2 hours before and after high tide down there. We will be coached and supported by Tomo and Nick from Catlins Surf School. They have a great set-up with big floaty boards, warm wetsuits and a technique that’ll guarantee to get you buzzing about surfing. If you’re looking to buy a board or upgrade yours, take this opportunity to try out some different sizes and shapes. Tide times for the weekend means we will be in the water from 10am-12pm on Saturday and 11am-1pm on Sunday.

Yoga sessions running each day, depending on surf times.  The classes are taught by Jill Midgley, an Iyengar inspired teacher based in Wanaka. Jill is an outdoor adventurer, hiking, biking, ski touring and much more and brings all this knowledge and experience into her classes. Whether you are a beginner or experienced, Jill has a knack of making you mind feel comfortable and your body well stretched! She has been travelling with the Mission WOW weekends up to Mt Olympus, Porters and down to the Catlins over the past few years and to me it’s an important part of the events.

Wildlife adventures to see yellow-eyed penguins (the world’s rarest penguin), wee Blue penguins, Hectors Dolphins, Sea Lions and Fur Seals and the fossilised forest from the Jurassic period!

Saturday 12th
8.30am- Gentle yoga stretch and warm up session
9.15am Breakfast
9.45am-Wetsuits on
10am-12pm- Surf lesson
12.30pm- Lunch
Afternoon to relax, walk on beach, read, stretch.
4pm- Afternoon tea
6pm- Pre dinner yoga
7.30- Dinner

Sunday 13th
9am- Gentle yoga stretch and warm up session
10am Breakfast
10.45am-Wetsuits on
11am-1pm- Surf lesson
1.30pm- Lunch
2pm-Check out

Cost: $349


  • 2 x nights in Dolphin Lodge, twin/triple share (single occupancy +$30) with late check out of 2pm
  • 2 x dinner, 2 x breakfast and 2 x lunch
  • 3 x yoga- Fri, Sat & Sun
  • 2 x surf coaching sessions- Sat & Sun
  • 2x hire of wetsuit, board and accessories (boots and hoods if needed)
  • Welcome drink of Maude wine, white/ red.

Not included:

  • Transport cost to get there- we will help with car pooling arrangements

The surf school is with Nick and Tomo at Catlins Surf, They have all the gear you’ll need for surfing on the South Coast- warm wetsuits, hooded vests, gloves, booties and a range of boards. It can be relatively chilly down on the south coast, even in summer.
